RABBIT SAFETY

The biggest threat is attack by predators such as
cats, dogs, foxes and large birds (crows, magpies, etc.).

These don’t just happen at night, but often in the daytime as well.
Some predators can open hutches and bend/chew wire,
others can burrow under a fence or jump over it.
Foxes and predatory birds are present in urban areas as well,
so don't think your garden is safe just because you live in a city.
Being timid animals, rabbits can become very stressed and die of a heart attack when they are frightened by predators, even if they are in their hutch or run.
For this reason we recommend you house your bunnies indoors or
in a safe outdoor building with solid walls and a padlocked door

Training Your Rabbit to Come Indoors

Rattling the food container/ biscuit tin is probably the quickest way of
getting a bunny to come when called.
Alternatively you could teach your rabbit the "Home" command:
walk slowly behind your bunny saying "Home" followed by his name.
If he feels he hasn't had his fair share of exercise he may run up and down the garden
a few times, but eventually he will come indoors to stop being harassed.
When he does, give him a treat and lots of praise

FERRET SAFETY ALERT

Your ferret can get heatstroke in temperatures above 80 degrees.

Heatstroke can kill your ferret within minutes,
so it is important to take precautions.
If you must travel with your ferret on hot days,
make sure to use a car with air conditioning.
Try not to set the ferret right in front of the vent;
direct drafts can make them sick.

Remember that holidays can be dangerous for our ferrets,
so keep your ferrets safe throughout the upcoming season.
Keep people food and candy out of reach of ferrets.

Keep ferrets locked up when non-ferret-conscious company is visiting.
If you do allow your ferrets to play with your guests,
make sure your guests know the rules:
no people food or drink and watch where you step.

Check gift wrapping and boxes for ferrets before you throw it away.

Make sure ferrets don't have access to decorations that they could swallow.
Don't allow ferrets to drink from the Christmas tree stand.

In case there is an emergency, find out *beforehand* (now!)
if any emergency vet clinics will be open during the holidays.
Make sure you have the number and directions handy just in case.

If you use common sense and keep an eye on your ferrets,
you should have a wonderful and safe Holiday Season.
